Privacy, in plain language.
Your work.
Your own space.
Your library and AI processing stay on your Mac. Model downloads and app updates use network connections. Here is what Snipkit stores, what can leave your device, and the choices you have.
Updated September 23, 2026 · Version 0.3.1
A local library.
Captures and saved items are stored on your Mac. There is no Snipkit cloud library.
Private, local AI.
Gemma and Apple Intelligence run on your Mac. Your captures and instructions are not sent to an AI service.
No account needed.
Try every feature for 14 days without sign-in or payment details. A purchase uses an email address and license key.
01 / SAVED ON YOUR MAC
Your captures and your library.
Snipkit saves screenshots, video recordings, captured text, links, colors, annotations, and library information on your Mac. Capture context can include recognized text, source app names, window titles, webpage URLs, and on-screen elements. This context helps you find and work with saved items.
Exporting, copying to the clipboard, or opening a saved link passes information to the location or app you choose. Files in a folder managed by iCloud Drive, another sync service, or your own backup software are also subject to that service's settings.
You can inspect the library folder from Library > More library actions (…) > Show library folder. Moving an item to Trash does not immediately remove it permanently. Emptying Trash removes those library items; separate exports and backups remain wherever you saved them.
02 / LOCAL PROCESSING
Speech and text stay here.
Text recognition (OCR) runs on your Mac using macOS. Voice commands are transcribed privately on your Mac using the speech model you download. Snipkit does not send your microphone audio to a speech service.
Screen recording and microphone permissions enable capture and voice features. Video recordings can include microphone audio, computer or app audio, and an optional webcam bubble. Camera access is used for the webcam preview and recording. Recordings and previews stay on your Mac; Snipkit does not upload them. Snipkit detects the keys and modifiers for your configured shortcuts so they can work across apps. This keyboard access uses either Accessibility or Input Monitoring; either is sufficient. Accessibility can also provide on-screen elements and source context.
You can review Snipkit's access in System Settings > Privacy & Security. macOS may show an additional screen-capture confirmation or request Desktop access under Files & Folders when you first save there.
03 / PRIVATE AI EDITS
Two thinking models. Both on your Mac.
The thinking model interprets requests such as “highlight the total” or “add an arrow” and plans your AI edits. Choose Gemma or Apple Intelligence in Settings > Models. Both run locally. Your captures, audio, instructions, recognized on-screen text, and editing context are not sent to an AI service.
Gemma is our recommended choice for Snipkit edits and runs after its model is downloaded. Apple Intelligence uses the built-in model when it is enabled and ready on a supported Apple silicon Mac with macOS 26 or later. Its availability is shown in Snipkit.
AI edits are optional. Capturing and manual annotation do not require a thinking model.
04 / NETWORK CONNECTIONS
Model downloads and app updates.
Downloading a model
Speech and Gemma model files are downloaded from Hugging Face and its file delivery infrastructure. Download requests reveal connection information, including your IP address and the model file requested, to those services. A model download does not upload your captures or microphone audio. After download and setup, these models can work offline. Apple manages the availability and download of its built-in Apple Intelligence model through macOS. See Hugging Face's privacy policy.
Checking for updates
Snipkit uses Sparkle to check the release feed and download updates from getsnipkit.com, served through Cloudflare. These requests can expose your IP address, app and updater version information, and the requested release files. Update checks do not send your library contents.
You can check manually or change automatic checks and downloads in Settings > Updates. Downloading the app from this website also creates normal web requests to our hosting provider.
05 / TROUBLESHOOTING
Activity stays local until you share it.
Snipkit keeps a local activity history to show progress and help explain errors. It may contain instructions, transcripts or recognized text, processing details, and model usage counts. You can use Clear history in the Activity panel to clear its saved history.
Copy debug report places a report on your clipboard. It can contain app and system details, permissions, settings, file paths, instructions, and recent activity. Secret scrubbing removes some known credentials, but it does not make a report anonymous or remove all private content. Review and edit it before sharing.
The app does not automatically send this report to Snipkit support. We do not include advertising or usage-tracking analytics in the app.
06 / PURCHASES AND LICENSES
No account. A key when you buy.
Snipkit offers a 14-day trial without a username, password, or payment information. A local Keychain record stores trial timing and a random installation identifier. After purchasing, your license key is also stored in Keychain.
Stripe handles checkout and payment details. Snipkit’s licensing service on Cloudflare stores your purchase email, Stripe order identifiers, license entitlement, and device activation identifiers and names. License keys are encrypted in storage; activation sends your key and a random installation identifier to that service. Recovery sends a private link to your purchase email through Cloudflare Email Service. These records do not contain your captures, audio, or library. No Snipkit account is required. See Stripe’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
07 / THIS WEBSITE AND YOUR MESSAGES
Visiting the site or getting in touch.
This website and our release downloads are hosted through Cloudflare. It processes web request information, such as IP addresses, requested URLs, and browser or app headers, to deliver and protect the site. We do not add advertising trackers, cookies, or analytics scripts to these pages. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for its handling of service data.
To learn which pages are useful, our server records each page view and installer download with PostHog, our analytics provider. A record contains the page address without its query string, the referring site, any campaign tags in the link, your country, and your browser, operating system, and device type. Your IP address and browser headers are not sent. Visits on the same day are grouped with an identifier derived from them that changes daily, so visits cannot be connected across days. Browsers that send Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track are not counted. See PostHog's privacy policy.
If you email support, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to include. Our email services process that correspondence so we can receive and answer it. Send only information you want us to see; a description of a problem is often enough.
For a privacy question or a request about information you have sent us, contact support@getsnipkit.com. For help with the app, visit support.
