A little help with Snipkit.
Back to
the good bits.
A few useful fixes, a guide to getting started, and a place to ask when something is not quite right.
01 / FIRST THINGS FIRST
Make yourself
at home.
Check your Mac.
Snipkit requires an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs are not supported. Find your chip and macOS version in Apple menu > About This Mac.
Install in Applications.
Download Snipkit, open the disk image, and drag the app into Applications. Eject the disk image, then open Snipkit from Applications. The public release is Developer ID signed by Bald Cactus LLC and notarized by Apple.
Follow the setup guide.
Snipkit walks you through permissions and shortcuts. You can return to it from Settings > General > Open guide. Try every feature free for 14 days, with no account or payment details required. After the trial, activate your key in Settings > License. Choose one year of updates for $6.99 or lifetime updates for $29.99 USD, tax included. Both cover two Macs; eligible versions remain yours to use. Recover your key or manage your Macs.
02 / A FEW USEFUL FIXES
Start here.
Try the section that matches what you are seeing.
Screen captures or shortcuts are not working.
Open Settings > Permissions in Snipkit. In macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security, check Screen & System Audio Recording access for captures. macOS may also ask you to confirm a screen capture. Follow any prompt to reopen the app after a permission change.
Keyboard access works with either Accessibility or Input Monitoring; you do not need both for shortcut detection. Accessibility also enables on-screen context. Check Settings > Shortcuts for the assigned keys and a possible conflict with another app. On a fresh setup, only the main voice shortcut is enabled, using Fn. Other shortcuts start at None; assign the ones you want, or capture from the Snipkit menu bar menu. Existing assignments are preserved. Apple's screen recording permission guide.
Voice commands do not hear me.
Check Snipkit's microphone permission and your Mac's selected sound input. In Settings > Models, wait until the selected speech model finishes downloading and warming up and shows Ready. Wait for Ready again if you change models. Hold your configured voice shortcut while speaking, then release it to run the command.
Speech recognition runs on your Mac after the model is ready. The first model download needs an internet connection. Apple's microphone permission guide.
AI annotations say a model is unavailable.
Speech-to-text and AI edits use separate models. In Settings > Models > Thinking model, choose Gemma, our recommended choice for Snipkit edits, or Apple Intelligence. For Gemma, let the download and verification finish. The setup guide can prepare it and show when it is ready.
Apple Intelligence is available on supported Apple silicon Macs with macOS 26 or later when Apple Intelligence is enabled and its model is ready. Check System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri if Snipkit reports it unavailable. Both thinking models run privately on your Mac. You can keep capturing and annotating manually while setting up a model.
A capture has not saved, or my library needs attention.
If Snipkit reports an unsaved capture, keep the app open and use the offered retry or export action. Check available disk space and access to your save location before quitting.
macOS may request Desktop access under Files & Folders when you first save there. Allow access to save to Desktop, or choose another save folder in Settings.
In the Library, open the More library actions (…) menu for Show library folder, Create backup, and Check library health. Keep a backup before making changes to library files. Items moved to Trash can be restored until you permanently delete them.
How do I update Snipkit?
Choose Check for Updates from the Snipkit menu, or open Settings > Updates. You can enable automatic checks and downloads there. Updates use Sparkle and are verified before installation.
Save your edits and close the Library, screenshot editors, and text editors before restarting to install an update. If an update cannot complete, download the current version and follow the installation steps.
03 / THE DETAILS THAT HELP
Show us
what happened.
A short description is a good place to start. Email support@getsnipkit.com with:
- Your Snipkit version, shown in Settings > Privacy & About.
- Your macOS version and chip, shown in About This Mac. A serial number is not needed.
- What you tried, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- The exact error message and whether the issue happens every time.
